Do it yourself bug spray:

April showers bring May flowers! Spring is also the time when insects and bugs begin to multiply at astounding levels and pester any early evening plans in the fresh air. If you’re anything like me, then you are also certain that mosquitoes and other biting insects are out to get you and may keep you indoors instead of enjoying the pleasant weather outside.

Bugs should not keep us from a walk around the park or neighborhood, a relaxing getaway at your favorite fishing hole, or enjoying a barbeque with family and friends. Before you get to the point of banishing yourself indoors, try this all-natural approach to a safe and hazard-free bug spray with 100% pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils from the World Leader in Essential Oils®.

Items needed:

  • Spray bottle, 8 oz.

  • Distilled water, 4 oz.

  • Unscented witch hazel, 4 oz.

  • Thieves® essential oil blend

  • Purification® essential oil blend

  • Melaleuca alternifolia essential oil

  • Citronella essential oil

  • Lavender essential oil

  • Lemon essential oil

  • Peppermint essential oil

  • Idaho tansy essential oil

Preparation:

  • Fill an 8-oz. spray bottle with 4 oz. of distilled water

  • Add 4 oz. of witch hazel

  • Add 10 drops of Thieves, Purification, and Melaleuca alternifolia essential oils

  • Add 5 drops of lemon, lavender, peppermint, Idaho tansy, and citronella essential oils

  • Shake well before each use and spray a light layer on skin and clothing

This natural alternative to store-bought bug sprays will keep you free from chemicals and other unnatural ingredients—not to mention the pleasant aroma that will be with you as you enjoy the nature around you.

However, if by chance you find yourself outside without bug spray, Purification is an amazing after-bite reliever that minimizes itching and redness, so be sure to keep some handy wherever you go.

Please share your experience below. I would love to hear from you and get suggestions for other Young Living essential oils that you would use in your own bug spray.

Fleas in Carpet 2 cups Borax, 10 drops YLEO

-Use Grand Fir in the fall or winter -Use Lemongrass or Citrus Fresh in spring or summer. Mix oils of choice into Borax thoroughly. Sprinkle on carpets 15 minutes before vacuuming

Bug tips: To keep bugs away, diffuse Purification or apply it. You could add it to water in a spray bottle and spray around your body. Also, if you have bugs coming in your house, Peppermint and Purification are a couple of oils you can try. It is recommended you add the oil to a cotton ball and place where the bugs come in or put the oil around the area they come in, just make sure it is a surface the oils won't damage.

A friend told me the other day they had ants coming in their kitchen to the bowl of cat food. He put a few drops of cinnamon oil across the doorway and the ants haven't been back.

I tried the Peppermint on my counter and this morning there are no more ants

Just want to share a success story!!! We love eating out on our deck but usually we eat and have to move inside immediately following our meal as NOTHING works on the gnats and other flying critters that invade our party. WELL.......today, I found a recipe for a bug repellant....using a glass spray bottle add.......a pinch of epsom salt....4 oz. of water, 5 drops of purification and 5 drops of peppermint......shake well and before each use. I sprayed it around the table cloth and then the perimeter. It worked FABULOUSLY!!!! Will def. make this an accompaniment to all our outside gatherings!!! So nice to have been able to use something that was a safe alternative to un~named chemical ridden products. Thank you Young Living for making outdoor festivities sooo much more enjoyable!

Bites:

Just took another tick off of our dog using Peppermint oil....works great! They don't like it so they start backing out and you can pick them right off.

Being too acidic may make you react more to bug bites so using Alkalime and creating more alkalinity helps. I would try Kunzea, that stuff is amazing! Purification with some thieves hand purifier also

I had mosquito bites bad and I used cool Azul pain cream. I had too much and spread it on my bites and it calmed them down. I was cool and I healed faster than I ever have. I would try it

I use purification then top with a drop of lavender. I’m amazed how much lavender is helping my skin.

Lavender works for me! Welt gone quickly.

Lavender and Copaiba are my go to oils for our big bites. I am like you I wept up like I was bitten by a T-Rex Mosquito/yellow fly

Take oils internally? Lemon, lavender, peppermint, copaiba would be my starting point.

Also wash area with thieves soap asap after bite. Spray with thieves spray and lavaderm when it happens.

And insect repellent before you go somewhere you may get bites.

I used to react much worse to bites but since I started drinking lemon or other citrus oils in my water all day, I don’t seem to get as many bites and don’t react as bad when I do.

Maybe that relates to a body chemistry change of some sort.

The other day I was weeding in my flower bed and I got bit by either bug or chiggers! They started itching I was uncomfortable so I called my daughter(who is very oily girl and my coach) what oil can I use for the itching she gave the recipe for the Scratch-less Roller three applications the redness, itchy was all gone young living has changed my life in alot of ways! #breatheagain

8 drops of Lavender

8 drops of Purification

5 drops of Tea Tree

3 drops of Copaiba

Fill rest of roller bottle up with fractionated coconut oil

I have found that this combination is very helpful with stopping the itch associated with bug/spider bites. The zinc in the sunscreen keeps a protective barrier while the thieves and peppermint work on reducing the swelling on the bite, and helping the area heal.

I wanted to share what has worked for me, since I keep getting bites of unknown origin.

Hope this can help someone
